Why Movement Matters

The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend adults get:

  • 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise per week

  • 2 sessions of strength training per week

Meeting these guidelines is linked to better overall health and a lower risk of:

  • Cardiovascular disease and hypertension

  • Type 2 diabetes and several cancers

  • Anxiety, depression, and cognitive decline

And if you’re a runner - great news! Running is an especially efficient form of exercise, associated with:

  • 27% lower risk of death from all causes

  • 30% lower risk from cardiovascular disease

  • 23% lower risk from cancer (Pedisic et al., 2020)
